Release Kit Licensing Agreement
Since 2012, I’ve relied on a gentleman’s agreement—no contracts—to keep the purchase of my exclusive releases simple. Recently, though, some of my work has been altered and used in ways I’m not comfortable with, and people sometimes assume these modified versions are my original creations. This has made it harder to manage without clearer agreements.
Basically, I just want to make sure my name stays connected only to work that truly represents me.
Therefore, I’m providing a clearer outline of the release kit terms and conditions:
Grant – I’m happy to grant you an exclusive license for one music release (cover, thumbnails, platform listings, plus social posts that promote this release).
Merch (promo only) – You’re welcome to make promotional stickers, shirts, or pins tied to this release. For retail merch, please check in first—we’ll set up a simple add-on license or fee.
Ownership – I’m proud of this piece and retain all copyright and moral rights. This is a license to use the artwork, not a sale of the artwork itself. However, once the artwork has been exclusively licensed, I will no longer profit from it in any way—I will not sell any merchandise or digital files containing the artwork.
Allowed edits – Feel free to add titles or typography, make safe crops or scaling adjustments, and apply minor color or tone tweaks. For anything beyond that, please ask first so we can maintain the artwork’s integrity.
No derivatives / AI – Please don’t create remixes, redraws, or use the piece in AI tools, training, or image-to-image systems. Do not upload it to any datasets.
Transfer – No sublicensing or assignment, other than what’s technically required for distributors and platforms.
Credit – Please credit: “Artwork by matikdesign.com” wherever credits are customary. I may share the piece in my portfolio and on social media.
Breach – If the agreement is breached, the license may be revoked and takedowns requested within seven (7) days. I’ll always reach out first to resolve things quickly and fairly.
